While showcasing her yarn technique, Lola hopes to engage in an open conversation about art practice, culture, and our identities. Born and raised in El Salvador in a Jewish household, Lola’s art is a personal pathway, a map to her home and cross-continental community.

About the presentation: At a young age, Matt was fascinated with nature and art, and he has traveled all over to research his subjects. An important part of his illustration process is seeing and learning about his subjects in the wild. In his presentation, he will discuss his experiences working in the field, conservation, his art, and researching the three most recent books he worked on with the award-winning author Sy Montgomery.

In his new book, Contested Continent, historian Peter Mancall offers a sweeping history of North America from 1000 to 1680, chronicling crucial developments to the eventual founding of the United States. Part of the Concord Festival of Authors.

Join Tom Ricardi of the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Center in Conway, MA, as he returns with some of his feathered friends! Get up close and hear about the predatory birds that call New England home.

Artisans Way in Concord Center welcomes artists Victoria and Lawrence Elbroch on Sunday, October 18, from 12- 5 p.m.  Their show, “Under the Branches,” includes both Victoria’s printmaking and drawing and Lawrence’s photography. They attribute their collaborative work to their loving relationship and a shared inspiration.

The Concord Orchestra presents “Dancing in Disguise.” The orchestra, conducted by Music Director Zeke Fetrow, performs music by Anna Clyne, Gabriel Fauré, and Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Clyne’s short composition, Masquerade (2013), was inspired by pleasure gardens in London in the 18th century. The four movements of Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande Suite were selected from incidental music he composed for a play. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3 “Polish” gets its nickname from the polonaise rhythm in its finale.  It was written slightly before Swan Lake and contains some similar musical themes and delightful dance rhythms.

In this dynamic, hands-on workshop led by faculty member Tsuyoshi Honjo, all you need are buckets and drumsticks to dive into an energizing, collaborative groove. Through engaging exercises, you’ll build rhythmic mastery, sharpen your sense of pulse and syncopation, and lock in with the group to create layered, intricate patterns.

Join us for a program and performance with the Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers, a group of musicians and artisans from the tribal communities of Mashpee on Cape Cod and Aquinnah on Martha’s Vineyard on Indigenous Peoples’ Day.  Participate in the performance of eastern social songs and dances.
