Songs for a New World

6/20/25 7:30 pm to 6/22/25 2:00 pm EDT
The Performing Arts Center Songs for a New World
51 Walden Street
Concord, MA
United States
Contact: Box Office

Written by Jason Robert Brown, "Songs for a New World" is somewhere between a musical and song cycle - a series of songs all connected by a theme: the moment of decision. Characters range from the mother of a Revolutionary soldier awaiting the end of the brutal war to a young man in the Bronx dreaming of becoming a famous basketball player to a forlorn and neglected Mrs. Claus lamenting as Christmas approaches. A diverse cast and rousing score blend pop, gospel, and jazz with tight harmonies and daring vocals that transport its audience from the deck of a Spanish sailing ship bound for a new land to the ledge of a New York penthouse.

    The Robbins House

The Robbins House was originally located on an isolated farm overlooking the Great Meadows along the Concord River. The first two families who lived there were descendants of Caesar Robbins, a Revolutionary Patriot of color, and the house is one of the only known historic sites commemorating the legacy of a previously enslaved Revolutionary War veteran. In 1823, Caesar’s son Peter Robbins purchased the new two-room house and over 13 acres for $260.
