John will explore Thoreau’s complex engagement with Native American culture, which reflected his deep respect for Indigenous knowledge alongside his complicity in the settler colonial structures of his time.

Join celebrated fashion historian Jonathan Michael Square as he uncovers the historical significance of the Garrisons’ portraits in the context of African American fashion and how these images fit into the larger narrative of how African Americans have expressed themselves through fashion.

The orchestra, directed by guest conductor Alyssa Wang, performs Andrea Tarrodi’s Camelopardalis,  Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto, and Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suites. Aron Zelkowicz is soloist for the Schumann Cello Concerto.

Join the MUSIC MAKES ME HAPPY Chorus in exploring Concord's role in the Abolition era and the Underground Railroad. Sing the spirituals that guided enslaved people to freedom and hear stories of brave Concordians like the Thoreau and Alcott families.
