There was a time when fine jewelry spent most of its life tucked away in a velvet box, reserved for weddings, anniversaries, and other milestone occasions. At Fairbank and Perry Goldsmiths, owner Geraldine Perry is helping to rewrite that story. “We want people to wear and enjoy their jewelry every day,” she says. “It should be part of your life.”
That philosophy has shaped the evolution of the Concord goldsmith shop. While Fairbank and Perry remains rooted in traditional craftsmanship, today’s customers are increasingly seeking pieces that reflect their own personalities rather than conventional expectations. The result is jewelry that feels more playful, personal, and deeply meaningful.
Chiha PortraitsFor some, that means transforming a family heirloom into something entirely new. Perry recently worked with a family to reimagine a diamond ring that had belonged to their mother. Rather than preserving the piece intact, the team redesigned the diamonds as two pendants—one for each daughter. Although the sisters had completely different design aesthetics, each pendant complemented its owner’s personal style while also carrying forward the shared legacy of their mother’s diamonds. The result was a pair of modern keepsakes that honored family tradition while feeling authentically their own.
For younger clients, self-expression often takes the form of unusual gemstones and nontraditional engagement rings. While diamonds remain popular, many couples are choosing colored stones such as teal sapphires, aquamarines, and tourmalines. Lab-grown diamonds have also expanded possibilities, allowing clients to select larger stones while staying within budget. “The jewelry becomes a reflection of who they are,” Perry explains.

Cherished heirlooms
One of the shop’s most intriguing customer groups, however, may be women in midlife. After years spent buying gifts for spouses, children, and family members, many are beginning to purchase jewelry for themselves. “They finally have the opportunity to ask, ‘What do I like? What is the story of me?’” Perry says.
Guiding clients through answering these delightful questions is one of the strengths of Fairbank and Perry’s all-female team. Classically trained in both design and jewelry-making, the staff combines creative vision with technical expertise. Every piece is made on-site, allowing for modifications and custom work that would be impossible in a traditional retail environment.
A customer who loves a design but prefers pink instead of blue? The team can make that happen. A family treasure that no longer suits modern tastes? It can be thoughtfully reimagined into something new.

Transformed for a new wearer
That collaborative approach extends well beyond the design process. Perry believes jewelry is deeply personal, and understanding the wearer is often just as important as understanding the piece itself. The shop is happy to meet with clients multiple times before fabrication begins, giving customers the confidence to explore possibilities without pressure.
In the end, Fairbank and Perry is not simply creating rings, necklaces, and earrings. The team is helping people capture memories, celebrate milestones, honor family connections, and express their individuality.
The materials may include gold, sapphires, diamonds, and gemstones, but the real value lies in the stories they carry. And those stories are meant to be worn.
