Musical Storytelling with Schumann Family Concert

12/6/25 11:00 am EST
Concord Conservatory of Music Musical Storytelling with Schumann Family Concert
1317 Main Street
Concord, MA
United States
Contact: Sara Seng

“They belong only to us” was Clara Schumann’s response upon first listening to Robert Schumann’s Kindersezen, “Scenes from Childhood”, alluding to the tenderness of childhood remembrances and music as a shared experience. CCM piano faculty Kitty Cheung-Evans retells this 1838 work and prompts listeners to create their own stories in this participatory event. Movement titles such as “Dreaming” and “Of Distant Lands” inspire the imaginations of today’s youth and kindle affectionate sentiments of childhood for adults, connecting all listeners with the art of musical interpretation.

A Season of Stories Worth Sharing

In the 19th century, Concord was home to a literary revolution spawned by writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, and others. That legacy still thrives today, as local authors continue to inform, inspire, and stir the imagination. And during the holidays, there’s no better gift than a book — something thoughtful, lasting, and deeply personal.
